»What do you thinks can happen, when you put quite a bunch of procurement
guys in the same place; they talk procurement; they think procurement and they
get passionate about how procurement can move forward. This is exactly what
happened at EPE in Munich June 2011!!!«

Jean-Philippe Collin
Vice President, Chief Purchasing Officer, Sanovi-Aventis Group

EPE 2012 will enable you to make bold transformations in your role and
strategies

Economic fluctuations have dramatically accelerated since the 2008/2009 crisis.
Business cycles have shortened, and the amplitudes of the ups and downs have
widened. The risk of a Euro-Zone breakup weighs heavily on the world economy.

Nevertheless, leading European companies are well prepared to face the challenges
and to embrace the opportunities of rapidly changing markets. Their focus is on
boosting competitiveness, improving cash flow and driving innovations.

This is exactly where procurement plays a key role: CPOs have to align corporate
strategies, strengthen the balance sheets and support innovation and growth in close
cooperation with their supply chain partners. To make this happen, CPOs need to
master the volatility of the commodity markets, strengthen their supply chains and
enhance procurement capabilities as well as empower the procurement organization.

200 procurement and finance executives from 15 countries met at EPE 2011 in
Munich. Under the headline "Enhancing Profitable Growth" they discussed how CEOs,
CFOs and CPOs should join their efforts to enhance sustainable corporate growth in
volatile markets.

Apart from discussing best strategies and case studies about how procurement can
successfully support this challenging task, the main focus of the summit was on the
future outlook for the world economy. In his key note speech Professor Dr. Michael
Hüther, Director and Member of the Main Board at Cologne Institute for Research,
elaborated the mega trends that are to be expected and their impact on currencies
and raw material supplies.

This perspective was further emphasized by Lord George Robertson, former General
Secretary at NATO and now Deputy Chairman of TNK-BP: Securing energy supply will
remain a key issue for all industrial companies – not only in Europe. Going into highly
interesting details, he discussed to which extent Europe’s future supply with oil and
gas is secured.

The summit pointed out that in the current challenging times it is not sufficient for
CEOs, CFOs and CPOs to cut costs and better manage cash flows but that it is
absolutely necessary to also put strong emphasis on innovations thus enhancing
top-line growth. Volatile markets make it even more crucial to think out of the box
and to develop completely new strategies. In this context, CPOs should put two
topics on top of their agenda – ensuring a high-performing supply base and
developing strategies for more effective risk mitigation. There is a lot to do to tackle
the current challenges.

Next year’s summit EPE 2012, scheduled from Thursday, 21st to Friday, 22nd June
2012, will show the progress achieved so far and will discuss the next steps. Be part
of it – save the date!
